Hails
from Columbus, Ohio where he is an accompanist for modern,
jazz, ballet and world dance classes at The Ohio State
University, Ohio Wesleyan University and BalletMet. Since
receiving a composition degree from The Ohio State University
in 1993, Brian has composed for, played trombone and piano
for, and toured and recorded with groups such as Mary Adam 12,
Syrup, New Basics Brass Band, Pica Huss, The New Bomb Turks,
The Spectre and AvantCollective. He is the co-leader of and
composes extensively for Honk, Wail and Moan, which recently
released the CD Saturn Swings on his Uff Da Music label. He
is also composer and accompanist in residence for The Wexner
Center's Silent Film Series in Columbus. Brian's work has
been seen at OSU and beyond with many choreographers. Work
with the University Dance Company included recreating and
performing the music for Joe Chvala's Red Walls and the
composition of the music score for Tere O'Connor's Cry Baby
and Life Song. In addition, Brian's music for O'Connor
premiered at The Colorado Dance Festival this summer. Other
dance scores have been seen with choreographers Gina Jacobs at
The Joyce Soho, Andrea Woods at DTW, and Stacy Reischman at
The Cunningham Studio in New York; and with Sara Wookey in
Bremen, Germany and Amsterdam. Brian's composing and
performing led to the receipt of an Individual Artist
Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council in 1995, to being named
"A Person To Watch in 1996" by Columbus Monthly magazine, and
to the receipt of a travel grant from the OAC in 2000.
